How Can Workplaces Reduce the Chances of Personal Injury?

Nov 22, 2022
When people go to work, they should feel as safe as possible. No one wants to get injured at work, but unfortunately, accidents do happen. According to LegalJobs, approximately 2.3 million people have work-related accidents every year globally. While some workplaces are more dangerous than others, any type of injury should be taken seriously. Here are some ways that workplaces can reduce the chances of needing to contact personal injury lawyers.

1. Clear the Clutter

A cluttered workplace is an accident waiting to happen. If there are hazards like cords or papers strewn about, someone is bound to trip and fall. This is especially true in places like factories or warehouses where there's a lot of heavy machinery. To reduce the chances of getting hurt and contacting injury lawyers, employers should make sure that the workplace is clean and free of clutter.

Do a regular walkthrough to make sure cords and wires aren't out of place. Have bins, lockers, and enough storage so employees have places to store things without leaving them out in the open. New Paragraph

2. Improve Lighting

Poor lighting is another major contributor to workplace accidents. If an employee can't see where they're going, they're more likely to trip and fall. This is particularly dangerous in places like stairwells or parking lots. To reduce the chances of injury, employers should make sure that the workplace is well-lit in all areas. Add sensor lights in dark areas, and make sure that all bulbs are working.

3. Provide Safety Equipment

In some workplaces, safety equipment is a necessity. This is especially true in construction or manufacturing environments. If employees doesn't have the proper safety gear, they're more likely to get injured and contact injury lawyers.

Safety equipment can include goggles, gloves, and earplugs. If you work in an office where people sit all day, make sure chairs and desks are in excellent shape so people don't hurt their backs. Desk safety equipment can include chairs with armrests and computer monitors at eye level.

4. Implement Safety Procedures

In any workplace, it's important to have safety procedures in place. Employees should know what to do in case of an emergency such as a fire or earthquake. They should also know how to properly use any potentially dangerous equipment. Employers should make sure that their employees are properly trained in all safety procedures.

It's helpful to have fire drills and safety meetings, and make such safety meetings relevant to your area. For example, if you have a business in an earthquake-prone city, have a meeting on what to do during and after an earthquake.

5. List Safety Hazards

Do a walk-through of the workplace and look for potential hazards. Once the hazards have been identified, they can be fixed and employees can be made aware of them. This will help to reduce the chances of needing personal injury lawyers.

Once you have listed any hazards that employees must work around, place this info on posters in an area where everyone will see it. You should also send priority emails to let people know what to look out for. This way, if an employee isn't aware of a potential hazard, they can be made aware of it before an accident happens.

6. Use Proper Signage

If there is a wet floor from mopping, make sure to put up a sign. If there is an area under construction, make sure that employees and customers are aware of it. Use caution tape and other such signage to make people aware of potential hazards.

7. Promote a Culture of Safety

One of the best ways to reduce the chances of injury is to promote a culture of safety in the workplace. Employees should feel like they can speak up if they see a potential hazard. They should know that their employer is committed to keeping them safe. Encourage employees to speak up by having a designated safety officer. You could also have a safety incentive program where employees are rewarded for spotting hazards.

There are many ways to promote a culture of safety. The most important thing is that employees feel like their safety is a priority for the company. If they don't, they're more likely to get hurt and be forced to consult with personal injury lawyers. To learn more about workplace safety, contact Petrizzo & Longo Attorneys At Law today!
